Coyote's Den

from Little One by Sarah Jo

/

about

This song is about my struggles with panic disorder and depression. It is more of a story than a song... but it is MY story. I hope to raise awareness around mental health and encourage others to speak up about their experiences.

lyrics

I've never had an enemy
That's taken shape in a man's body
I prefer to put my fists up and aim at an eye
Whenever I see a mirror nearby

I ask not for love, but for stillness
I pray not for joy, but for silence

The familiar clutch of cold claws
Digging round my unsuspecting heart
Hammering in me
Stealing all the diamonds from my damn quarry.

I ask not for love, but for stillness
I pray not for joy, but for silence

But I am just the little one
Who stumbled in to the coyote's den
I am just the little one
Who stumbled in to the coyote's den

You bled me of my youth
Tying little bows round my own noose
And I hate you
But I am you

But I am just the little one
Who stumbled in to the coyote's den
But I am just the little one
Who stumbled in to the coyote's den

I ask not for love, but for stillness
I pray not for joy, but for silence
Not love, stillness
Not joy, silence

But I am just the little one
